Just the FAQS
Each web hosting account comes with it's own unique IP number.
(I.E. It's own internet address.) You can access any aspect of your website,
file or directory structure using your IP number just like a domain name.

A new domain registration takes about 2 days to propagate throughout
the web and be recognized online.
| 1. To have a website you must have a
host. A host is the server attached to the web with special high capacity
cables. You upload your html pages and images to this server. Or create a
site using our Site-Builder tool.
2. You must have a domain name to own a website online. Use our Domain
Search to find a new name and register it for the first time as your own.
Or transfer a domain name you already own, it's very easy.
3. Once you have uploaded or created a website you can use the many
tools we provide to maintain, manage and develop your site. |
Name servers and InterNic - domain name Basics
There is no charge to transfer your domain. We will give you a unique IP
address which is a numbered address for your web site.
It is easy to switch and generally takes about 1-3 days
for your domain address to propagate throughout the web.
Your web will be accessible by you within minutes of sign-up using your IP.
- Who
is the InterNIC?
The InterNIC is an independent organization responsible for holding the
registration and routing of Internet domain names. Without these people it would
be virtually impossible to maintain sanity on the Internet. Register your
domain through us and pay only $12.97/year. If you decide to transfer your
existing domain over to Cyberiot.com,
you will not have to pay this fee to us. However, you will have to pay for your
domain through your existing registration company.
- What is a Virtual
Domain?
A Virtual Domain means having your own domain name (http://www.your-name.com)
without having to install expensive server hardware and software. With a
Virtual Domain, you utilize our server's storage space, however you are still
professionally represented via your own personal Internet web address domain
name (www.your-name.com) and by your own personal e-mail address domain name.
(you@your-name.com)

NAME SERVERS
Name Server: Also called a virtual host, host, virtual name
server, name server, or virtual server and it all refers to
the same thing, the computer that has both the software and the data (zone
files) needed to resolve domain names to Internet Protocol (IP) numbers.
Name servers act as the translators between
the IP address and the domain name address. Example: CybeRiot.com uses
NS.CybeRiot.com as the name server. The Internet does not directly interpret the
alphanumeric Internet addresses, such as CybeRiot.com, without an IP address.
The name server translates the numeric IP address into the alphabetical address
that we all understand as a typical domain name.
To find out the name server
for a domain name, do a who-is look up at Internic. Your-name.com is not
the same thing as a name server, it is a Virtual Domain, hosted on
a name server. (You don't NEED to enable a virtual name server to
resell.)
- What is an Internet
Protocol (IP) ?
An IP is an Internet address, used to deliver mail and other "packets"
of data from computer to computer. Every IP address consists of a series of
numbers, separated by periods, or dots as they are sometimes called. That is why
when you view the IP Address window, you will see a series of IP addresses and
their corresponding numbers. Example: 000.000.000.000 (Each 000 represents a
number between 0-255).
Each IP number is actually an internet domain
address, or Universal Resource Locator URL. For ease of use, these long
series of numbers are converted to domain names, such as
"CyberRiot.net". This name system is referred to as the Domain Name
System (DNS) and was developed by Sun Microsystems in the early 1980’s.
It is now the common addressing system of the Internet. The 32 bit IP numeric
address is converted into a recognized domain name, rather than a series of
randomly assigned numbers, making the Internet fun and easy to use. IP Addresses
are also used with Name Servers. Internic maintains a database of name servers
and corresponding IP addresses.
-
How do I
register my Domain Name to point to the new IP?
Name Servers are requested when registering domain names. If you registered
your Domain through our order page, it is registered on our name servers
with sign up. If you have an existing Domain Name and would like to
transfer it to your new account, check the help pages in your control panel.
There you will find all the necessary information.
To make the change, go to Networksolutions.com and click on make changes.
Follow the steps to change your name server information. We'll supply you with
our name server information. (DNS)
You will end with an email confirmation which they send to you to verify
change and authorize switch. They do this 'double verify' for security. This
ensures no domain will be switched without the OWNER consent.
With a Virtual Domain, you utilize our server's storage space, however you
are still professionally represented via your own personal Internet web address
domain name (www.your-name.com) and by your own personal e-mail address domain
name.
You get a free tool to register with many search engines easily.
We offer free advise on how to achieve top rankings to our clients. I can
show you how to really get the number one spot in less than a week.
Our servers are very secure. All of our servers come equipped with a
firewall, and our entire network is secured through a circuit level firewall,
providing one more level of security for mission-critical data.
To ensure the integrity of your web site, we proactively monitor system
processes on each server as well as across our entire network. These monitoring
programs are designed to halt and report all intrusions to the system.
The set-up refers to installing your domain on our servers and making it
available to the web. We set-up directories for you to 'PUT' your html pages and
graphics. You can upload to your-domain.com.
An online file manager lets you browse your computer for files then simply
click and the file is copied to your domain server.
You can upload files with an FTP program which opens your file system on your
computer and your server files (your domain) online.
Then you can move files to your server by selecting and clicking. FTP
transfers files rapidly by breaking them down to binary, then sending and
reassembling at the other end. You won't even know it's happening.
There are many FTP programs available. We recommend WS_FTP
www.ipswitch.com
or CuteFTP
www.cuteftp.com Both have free trial download.
See more on uploading in support
area.
- Will I have
unlimited access to update my pages ?
You have unlimited access via FTP 24-hours a day. As such, you can create and
maintain your web pages on your own computer and upload files to your web site
at your leisure.
You would have complete control to maintain your own site 24/7. You will have
an Online Control Panel with many features including a file manager shell.
- I
already have a merchant account.
If you already have a merchant account and accept credit cards, contact your
provider for details on internet transactions. Many merchant account providers
charge a higher rate for internet sales. If you use one of our
affiliate partners you can simply plug-in CC processing to the GOLD or PLATINUM

- MySQL
Administrator for Windows
The program allows a number of server connections to be set up and displayed in
a tree view. Each server connection can be configured with a required host,
login username and password and port address, as well as being given a friendly
free format display name. These server connections can be added, removed and
edited, and are automatically saved to the system registry upon program exit.
All stored passwords are encrypted with Blowfish, and this should be quite good
enough in the majority of cases. If you are running on Windows NT, the combined
security of Blowfish, NTFS rights and registry rights should be more than enough
- stronger than the chances of cleartext passwords on a LAN/WAN being
intercepted. You can distribute this through your office or on your LAN. There
is no support with this version at the moment. We will maintain an ongoing
members knowledgebase on it.
- What is a Java
Servlet?
The Java Servlet provides our clients with a very powerful system tool. Java
Servlets provide web developers with a simple, consistent mechanism for
extending the functionality of a web server and for accessing existing business
systems. Servlets are protocol and platform-independent server-side components,
written in Java, that dynamically extend Java-enabled servers, without the
performance limitations of CGI programs. They have access to the entire family
of Java APIs, including the JDBCTM API to access enterprise databases. Servlets
can also access a library of HTTP-specific calls and receive all the benefits of
the mature Java language, including portability, performance and reusability.
- The ServletManager
is used to install or remove support for Java Servlets. Our clients have long
had the capability of running Java servlets, so Java Servlets are nothing new on
our servers. Previously Control Panel users were unable to install Java Servlet
support for themselves; either clients or a technical support analyst had to
manually install a servlet zone, in response to requests from a Control Panel
user.
- Our servers do not support JSP
(JAVA server pages). Currently we are running jserv1.0b5 with JservSSI support.
- Some basic
questions about running Real Audio/Video files on our servers.
(1) You do not have the RealServer software running on your servers. Will
we be able to stream RealMedia files?
Yes, you will be able to stream RealMedia files. You will need to create a .ram
file that calls your real audio/video file. The .ram file is a text file with an
absolute URL. This URL will need to be:
http://full.domain.name/directory/filename.rm
(2) Is there a difference between streaming using the PNM-protocol and
the HTTP-protocol?
If you visit http://www.real.com/, you might come across a term called
"pseudo-streaming". According to audiohost.com:
"Pseudo-streaming" is a discriminating name for HTTP-stream. It was
invented by the RealAudio promotion to suggest that you need to use the
RealAudio server if you want to get "real" streaming. Here's a free
translation: "Streaming RealAudio files without using RealAudio server
software". That's all there is to it! The RealAudio server actually has
some special features that cannot be achieved (in RealAudio) without it.
Regarding "streaming" we cannot find a difference between the
two protocols.
(3) What are some of the special features of the RealServer?
With the Real Server, you are able to take advantage of "bandwidth
negotiation". This feature takes into account the bandwidth of the surfer's
Internet connection when clicking on the hyperlink that requests the RealMedia
file. Depending on the connection, the RealServer will provide a different
version of the RealMedia file that best suits the visitor's bandwidth
connection.
You also need the RealServer to broadcast live on the Internet.
(4) How do I get around not having "bandwidth negotiation"?
While encoding, if you set the target audience to 28 K modem, you will be able
to reach the largest audience possible. If you want your higher bandwidth
connection visitors to receive better quality recordings, you can always create
a second link to a RealMedia file that is encoded with a target audience of a
higher bandwidth connection.
